The January Gothic Valley WI meeting was Lisa’s first as President, and she spoke about her commitment to ensuring that the Gothic Valley WI remained a safe space for anyone who identifies as female to come and share, learn and have fun. Lisa expressed how honoured she was to serve as President.
Following announcements, Lisa warmly welcomed Joanne Croxford, Social Recovery Project Manager for
Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and WI member extraordinaire to the first Gothic Valley meeting for 2017. Lisa also welcomed visiting WI members from as far afield as Jersey and Cambridge.
Joanne spoke to members about her personal experience with drug addiction and how the sisterhood of the WI helped her through her recovery. Joanne has gone on to help establish the first outward-facing, recovery-focused WI group, Daisy Change, that meets in the hospital where she works.
A committed vegan, activist and astonishingly passionate advocate of all things WI, Joanne enthralled members with her understanding, kindness, caring and compassion. Towards the end of the meeting Joanne participated in a question and answer session with members. The evening concluded with tea and yummy vegan treats.
We’re also delighted to say that Joann has joined GVWI as a member!
