A very merry gothmas!

It’s been a while coming, but since it’s nearing the C-word (that’s Christmas for the uninitiated) and Halloween is pretty much the gothic equivalent these days, why not pause for a little bit of a retrospective of the Halloween party we had in October?

All these photos were taken by the wonderful Catherine Currie.

It was our first proper foray into the community in North London, so we were a bit nervous. The fabulous Franjelica organised the decorations, and organising Raven did the organising (and it went very smoothly, too!). A lot of us baked (I made tiiiiny quiches and vegan scones) and we ended up with a table full of amazing foodstuffs.

El presidente Holly El Secretariate Elin baked approximately one million bat biscuits and laid out a table with all sorts of stuff for decorating in them, we had pumpkin carving, face painting and apple bobbing all set up too. All we had to do was wait for our guests to arrive!

And arrive they did. There were lots of new faces, some spectacular costumes (the purple princess and the entire family of skeletons need a special mention), and we got the special treat of feeding a whole lot of adorable kids sugar and watch them run riot. It was brilliant.

We also had a fantastic raffle, with £50 worth of vouchers from local kids store Aravore, delicious sparkling wine from the amazing Spirited Wines, cookie cutters from James Nicholson, goodies from Dunn’s Bakery and more! People were wonderfully generous.

As the evening drew in and the families melted into the night, the party carried on, with a special Halloween cocktail developed by the lovely folks at the Shaftesbury Tavern, and DJing from our friends Adam (DJ Traumahound) and Andy (DJ Ravensable), and a costume competition won in grand style by Black Swan and Stroud Green WI President Yvette Rathbone.

In short, a brilliant time was had by all, and to all a good night!
